10/8/2019 Outlook For Mac Defoult Calender
I have had an Outlook 365 account for several years, which I have used for email, contacts and calendar in Outlook for the Mac (and Outlook 2013/16 on my Windows machines, first 7 and now 10), beginning in Outlook 2013 for the Mac and which migrated properly to Outlook 2016 for the Mac. Up to now, this has been seamless, far superior to the Mac Mail/Contacts programs and allows me to use bot Mac and Windows platforms interchangeably. I recently added a second Outlook 365 exchange account, which I want to set as my new default email, contacts and calendar in Outlook 2016 for the Mac. And for Windows. This was easy to change on the PCs - just change the default data file in Outlook/Account Settings to the new exchange account, and all work like a charm in Outlook 2016 for Windows.
The default calendar in Outlook is the calendar folder which is placed within your default data file mailbox. This doesn't consistently have to be same as your default mail account. When a new meeting request is receive, Outlook will purpose that calendar to establish item even when you received invite message via distant account.
I have also copied all my contacts and calendar entries and Outlook folders from the old exchange account to the new exchange account, as I want to use the original exchange account only for occasional emails, but not for any other functions. However, this has been a challenge in Outlook 2016 for the Mac. I have changed the new exchange account to be the 'default' account in Outlook 2016 for Mac/Preferences/Accounts. However, this has not changed the default Calendar to the new account. Rather, all new appointments made on or through the Mac are being saved to the old calendar. My Mac OS is OS X El Capitan, in case that is important.
Please let me know how to change the default Calendar in Outlook 2016 for Mac to a new exchange account. This will force accounts to be managed as separate entities, one at a time.
My calendar is the sum of my account calendars, and is only useful when they're all present in the calendar view at once. That works now. However I need to have new appointments stored in a specific account calendar. Right now they go to 'On My Computer' storage, which is patently useless when sync'ing to other devices.
If I create a new meeting, there's a UI to allow me to choose the calendar to be used, but not for appointments, and I can't make single-person meetings (which is again ridiculous.) I feel this is likely a testing oversight that should have been bugged early in the project. Likely when they discovered it (if they discovered it) it was too late to do that much coding against ship. However, they should make this happen in their new development cadence.
